About / Statement of Faith
Victor Ekpott holds firmly to historic, biblical Christianity as expressed in a classic evangelical (Southern Baptist) doctrine, while also embracing the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in the church today. His core beliefs can be summarized as follows:
- Scripture: The Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God and the supreme authority for all matters of faith and conduct. Victor believes that Scripture is inerrant and sufficient, serving as the final plumb-line against which all teachings and revelations must be tested.
- God and Jesus Christ: There is one true God, eternally existent in three Persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (the Holy Trinity). Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, who lived a sinless life. He died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, was buried, and rose again bodily on the third day. He ascended to heaven and will come again in glory. Salvation is found in Christ alone.
- Salvation: Salvation is by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. All humans have sinned and are in need of redemption. We cannot save ourselves by good works or personal merit. Jesus’ atoning death and resurrection provide the only basis for forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. Each person must personally trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord to receive salvation. This saving faith results in a transformed life, as the believer is born again by the Holy Spirit.
- Baptism and the Church: Victor practices believer’s baptism by immersion, in line with Baptist conviction. Baptism is a symbolic act of obedience – an outward demonstration of the inward change that occurred at salvation (Romans 6:4). Only those who have consciously placed faith in Christ are baptized, and it serves as a public testimony of one’s new life in Christ. He also holds to the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper (Communion) as a memorial commanded by Jesus, in which believers partake of bread and cup to remember Christ’s sacrifice until He comes. Victor believes the Church is the Body of Christ – composed of all true believers worldwide (the universal Church), and expressed locally in congregations. The church exists to worship God, edify believers, and evangelize the world. Every member of Christ’s body has a role and gift, and Jesus Christ is the head of the Church, guiding it by the Word and Spirit.
- Holy Spirit and Spiritual Gifts: Victor is a continuationist in theology, meaning he affirms that the Holy Spirit’s power and gifts described in the New Testament are still active and available to believers today. He believes the Holy Spirit indwells every believer at the moment of salvation – sealing them as God’s own and empowering them to live a holy life. The Spirit sanctifies, comforts, guides into all truth, and equips the church with spiritual gifts for ministry (1 Corinthians 12:4–11). Among these gifts are teaching, service, leadership, mercy, as well as miraculous or prophetic gifts like prophecy, tongues, interpretation of tongues, healing, miracles, and discernment. Victor asserts that these gifts have not ceased with the apostles, for Scripture never declares an end to them; rather, they are given “for the edification of the church” until Christ returns. However, he emphasizes that all spiritual gifts must operate under the authority of Scripture and in an orderly, loving manner (1 Corinthians 14:40). Any prophetic word or charismatic manifestation should align with biblical truth and exalt Jesus, not man. In Victor’s own ministry, he has witnessed and personally experienced the Holy Spirit’s work – from prophetic insights that have blessed individuals, to divine healing and answered prayers – all of which he credits to God’s glory and not human ability.
- Christian Life and Hope: In line with orthodox faith, Victor believes that every Christian is called to grow in Christlikeness, through prayer, study of the Word, and fellowship. The grace that saves us also teaches us to say no to ungodliness (Titus 2:11–12). Believers are expected to pursue holiness and love, showing the reality of their faith through good works (not as a means of salvation, but as its fruit). Additionally, Victor holds the blessed hope that Jesus Christ will return visibly and gloriously to earth, at a time appointed by the Father. He believes in the resurrection of the dead – the saved to eternal life and the lost to eternal separation from God – and in the ultimate victory of God’s Kingdom. This hope fuels his ministry, knowing that history is moving toward the fulfillment of God’s promises.
In summary, Victor Ekpott’s faith is anchored in the unchanging Gospel and the fundamental truths passed down through Scripture. He aligns with the solid biblical doctrine often identified with Southern Baptist tradition (such as the authority of Scripture and salvation by grace through faith), and he enriches that foundation with a living expectation of the Holy Spirit’s active presence (continuing spiritual gifts and prophetic ministry). This blend of sound doctrine and Spirit-filled living defines his theology. It is not mere head knowledge or emotionalism, but a holistic faith that engages heart and mind. Victor’s desire is to uphold truth without compromise, love God with all his heart, love others as Christ loves, and serve the Lord faithfully until His coming. Every statement of faith he makes is ultimately meant to point to Jesus Christ – the Author and Finisher of our faith – to whom all honor and glory belong.
